Let's get started!

Yay! How fun to start a book club!! So let's get started- I'm going to post a few topics for everyone to give their input on.

Communication
First, electronic communication is so fast and easy I think we should definitely use this for everything, so we'll have this blog and I'll create a group on Facebook for everyone to join, or we could use texting, email, phone calls (as long as I don't have to make them) or all of the above?? There's also a site goodreads.com where you can create a profile with a list of books you've read or would like to read and review them, we could all create accounts there and create a group.

Day/Time
I was thinking late January or early February would be a good time for the first meeting. Since Mon-Thurs night seem to be the nights for sports, meetings, church activities etc. I was thinking Friday night might be the best evening to get together. Say, maybe the 3rd Friday of every month or something? 6:30 or 7pm? Earlier or later??

Location
As long as the group is small, I can offer my house as a meeting place. We could also rotate between everyone's homes, or I don't know if there is a way to use a public place if someone has access to their church building, maybe a library or something?

Format
I was thinking that we could all come with a list of books we'd like to read and then we can chose from that list to assign one book a month (or for two months if we're getting into a big one?) and have it all outlined for a year at a time? Maybe whoever chose the book could come up with a couple discussion questions to get the conversation going, or maybe we don't want to do discussion questions?

Snacks
(Of course this is an important topic!!) We could keep it casual and just say everyone bring whatever they want or don't, or maybe we could make assigments and rotate? Or depending on the location, snacks may not be possible.

Also, before our first meeting, maybe everyone could put together a list of 5 or 10 books that they're interested in reading, and also come with any info on where to buy/borrow books so none of us are spending much to make this happen.

So, hopefully that gets everyone thinking, please comment on all of these topics plus anything else I am forgetting. I am so excited to get this going!!
